Informal Talks is a global cultural exchange show produced by Hubei TV for
young audiences and international students in China. The main content of the
show consists of “Global Cultural Relativity”, “Proposals” and “Mini-theater”,
which carry out in-depth and extensive discussions on many topics that young
people are concerned about today. So far, nearly 200 young foreigners from more
than 50 countries have participated in the show. Due to their participation, the
show has become a window for the world to learn about China by showing the
achievements of China’s development from their perspective. Informal Talks was
launched in 2015 on Hubei TV and airs for 87 minutes every Saturday at 21:20.
Since 2019, it has been co-produced by Hubei TV and Bilibili. In the past three
seasons, the broadcast volume on Bilibili has exceeded 100 million, and the
bullet-screen comments have exceeded 2 million. At present, it has 6.1 million
fans on Weibo, with more than 5 billion Weibo topics read.
Many foreign guests of the show actively share relevant topics about the
show and China on social media platforms in their home countries. Their
participation in the show drew attention from the media and made them the
“masters of Chinese culture and life” on social media. In 2022, Informal Talks
will be released on overseas platforms with bilingual subtitles, so as to
improve the publicity of Chinese culture.
