湖北畫報創刊于1958年，由湖北省文學藝術界聯合會主辦，由湖北畫報社編輯出版，長期以來肩負著湖北對外宣傳的重任，是一本以圖片為主、全彩印刷的高端綜合刊物。

　　

　　湖北畫報為半月刊，其中上半月刊內容側重于時政綜合、經濟和文化，下半月刊內容側重于旅游、戶外和休閑。刊物風格簡潔、大氣、高雅，力求以最具沖擊力的圖片塑造強烈而獨特的視覺效果，以優美精煉的文字形成簡練而明快的閱讀效果。
